100% local, individually fawned upon, home grown plants you can pick up and plant immediately, hardened off, interesting, fun, or hard to impossible to find locally varieties. The unpredictable fall growing season will start with transplants in August started for Jacksonville this year, 2021.
Heirlooms are open pollinated tomato plants with seeds that grow true to their pedigree, with great taste, interesting histories, and are often attractive and different. I enjoy old-fashioned tomato taste, historical & artisan heirloom tomatoes, interesting shapes, vigorous heirloom tomatoes, and wild tomato species. Heirlooms and any other tomatoes I grow are NOT G.M.O.'s, and all open pollinated plants are grown from clean, saved seed. In the fall season I do grow both hybrids, and heirlooms, due to the short and sometimes quick freezes. I'm not a heirloom-only snob in Fall like in the Spring season, because then the objective is to get tomatoes that aren't store bought and have home grown big flavor. Hybrids are tomato plants that don't grow true when you save the seeds, but like all my tomatoes they are conventionally bred and are really just a first generation of cross-pollinated heirloom parent plants.
