Thanks to the generous support of many funders, Porters Community Farm was established in the fall of 2012 in the Porters neighborhood of downtown Gainesville. As Gainesville's first urban farm, the main component of the Porters Community Farm is ten 55 foot rows that are being intensively grown to help supply fresh organic vegetables to the nearby St. Francis House for the Homeless.
In addition to providing shelter to the homeless in our community, St. Francis House also operates a soup kitchen that supplies lunch to 200 individuals every day. It is the goal of the farm to supply 1 ton of fresh vegetables to St. Francis and other local charities annually. The farm also sells to restaurants, select farmers markets and Citizens Co-op.
Porters Community farm is supported largely by volunteer help, our summer volunteer workday schedule is Tuesday 7-12, Wednesday 7-12, Thursday 5-7 and Friday 4-8.
